Reporting Problems with a License

All licensing issues for units running in CCNs are handled by a specialized team at F5. If the license you receive does not work on the intended system, immediately call or e-mail F5 Support at licensingsupport@f5.com for assistance and reference your ticket number.

  • Tip: To ensure prompt response, be sure to include CCN FAILURE REPORT in the email subject header.
  • Tip: To improve the resolution time please include screenshots from the data input screen and the error screen.


Instructions for Manually Installing Licenses

Up-to-date and detailed instructions about installing licenses can be found on Support. The general process for installing CCN licenses manually from the web interface is outlined here.

  1. Open the Configuration utility/web interface.
  2. Type the user name and password, based on the unit you are licensing.
  3. Click License Utility to open the License Administration screen.
  4. At the Install License screen, submit the license file using one of the following methods:
    • Paste the contents of the license file you received from F5 IT into the license box, and click Install License.
    • At the License File box, click Browse to locate the license file on the hard drive, and then click Install License.
  5. The License Status screen displays status messages, and the message "Process complete" appears when the licensing activation is finished.
  6. Click License Terms, review the EULA, and accept it.
  7. At the Reboot Prompt screen, select when you want to reboot the platform. License activation is complete only after rebooting.

Instructions for Using CCN Licensing Utilities

Please follow the instructions appropriate for your product version described below.

BIG-IP systems versions 11.3.0 to 11.6.x and BIG-IQ system versions 4.0.0 to 4.5.0:

  1. Log in to the BIG-IP or BIG-IQ system to obtain shell access.
  2. To extract the clear-text dossier, from the command line, type the following command:

    get_ccn_dossier

    The system displays output similar to the following example:

    HAL MAC Address: 00:0C:29:A1:F0:64
    TMSH MAC Address: 0:C:29:A1:F0:64
    UUID: 564da98d-9171-bd7d-6feb-f233afa1f064
    Platform: Z100
    Product: BIG-IP 11.3.0 2806.0

BIG-IP systems versions 12.0.0 and greater or BIG-IQ versions 4.6.0 and greater:

  1. Log in to the BIG-IP or BIG-IQ system to obtain shell access.
  2. To extract the clear-text dossier, from the command line, type the following command:

    get_dossier -c -b <regkey>

    Where <regkey> is your F5 product registration key.

    The system displays output similar to the following example:

    $ get_dossier -c -b BJBCR-YKNSD-WAPPK-MBZTD-AUYDQLH

Output from the command line utilities

Note: The get_ccn_dossier and get_dossier commands both produce key: value fields. This output can be:

  • Copied from the device and pasted into the CCN self-serve portal.
  • Manually entered into the CCN self-serve portal.
  • Provided to F5 via a technical support case.
